Congratulations on your upcoming wedding! You will now begin the tasks of planning your special day and making a list and checking it twice! Once a wedding date is set and you have chosen your gown and selected the color theme you want for your wedding, you will want to find a florist or designer that you know to be reliable and professional to provide your bouquet and the flowers for the wedding party. Hopefully you will have several months before the wedding to line this up. It is suggested that this process start about 6 month prior to the wedding, particularly is using fresh flowers as opposed to silk flowers.
How can you prepare? It is important to see photos of the florists' previous work, to ask questions and it is always helpful to provide clippings from your favorite bridal magazine of bouquets that you especially like. Take swatches of bridesmaid's dresses if you can and be as explicit as possible about your expectations, desires and budget. (Remember if you have chosen to use fresh flowers, there are peak times in the industry where the price of flowers increases due to supply and demand at Christmas, Valentines, Easter and Mother's Day. If you are getting married over a holiday weekend, be sure to budget a little extra for this additional expense. If you are choosing silk flowers, you will not have this price variance associated with holidays. )
Begin to make a list of the flowers you like. If you don't know the names of the flowers and many people don't, but have a photo instead, your florist can work with that. They are the professionals and will know the names of each flower. If you are choosing fresh flowers, you will be limited to what is in season and what your designer can get for you. If using silks, everything is in season all the time!
